The rainforest biome covers less the 6% of the Earth's surface but produce 40% of the world's oxygen. They are found in Brazil, Africa, and Southern Asia.
Biotic Factor
Native Plant Species
Bengal Bamboo- It is found in the Southern part of Asia. The bamboo helps the biome because it reduced soil erosion and take in water during heavy rains.
Mangroves- They prevent erosion by collecting sediment from the rivers and also protect the coastline by slowing down the flow of water.
Invasive Plant Species
English Ivy- The ivy endangers the habitat of the native plants by taking over living space and nutrients.
Abiotic Factors
The yearly temperature of the rainforest biome is about 18 degrees Celsius. The yearly precipitation is about 150 cm.
The latitude of the rainforest biome is 15 to 25 degrees North and South of the equator. The altitude of the rainforest is about 1000-2500 meters above sea level.
Soil in the tropical rain forest biome is very nutrient poor. The topsoil is only one to two inches and plant life is so lush is because the plants store the nutrients in themselves rather than getting them from the soil
Human Interaction With The Environment
Although it is possible to find human life in the rainforest, it is difficult to survive because of the amount of wildlife and unknown organisms that could be potentially life threatening. The expanding human population is placing pressure on the resources and space of the rainforest, threatening the animals and plants that rely on the rainforest. Ways to decrease the amount of damage done is to regulate the tree cutting and also the industrialization of the rainforest land.
