The chaparral is usually very hot and dry. The biome is found in a little bit of most of the continents, from the west coast of the US to the Mediterranean coast.
Biotic Factors
Native Plant Species
Fairy Duster- The fairy duster in found in the chaparral areas and its essence is used to balance emotional mood swings.
Salt Marsh Bird's Beak- This plant is endangered and is found in the coastal chaparral regions.
Other native plants species include blue oak, coyote brush, king protea, olive tree, torrey pine, and the manzanita.
Invasive Plant Species
Red Brome- The plants threaten the desert tortoises impede with the effort to restore the native plants to the chaparral biome.
Other invasive plant species include the ivy, fountain grass, periwinkle, and the pampas grass.
Native Animal Species
Aardwolf- The aardwolf is a type of hyena that mainly easts insects and lives in the African chaparral biomes.
Puma- The puma is an extremely adaptable to its environment and is found in the chaparral of California to the Andes Mountains.
Other native animal species include spotted skunk, wild goat, cactus wren and the black-tailed jackrabbit.
Invasive Animal Species
Crazy Yellow Ant- They prey on the small mammals and animals, threatening the survivability of the animals.
Abiotic Factors
The yearly temperature is about 30 to 100 degrees, but the temperature is usually mild. The yearly precipitation is about 10-17 inches, most of which comes during winter.
The latitudes of the chaparral biome is from 30° to 50° N and 30° to 40° S. The altitude of the chaparral biome is between 500 to 4500 meters above sea level.
The soil in the chaparral biome is very nutrient poor. This is mainly a factor of humans changing other biomes to custom fit the world to their needs.
Human Interactions With The Environment
Humans could adapt to the chaparral biome only if they find shelter from the harsh, hot environment. The most damaging threats to the biome are fires, which are increasing due to human activity. One way to prevent the increasing damage to the chaparral biome is to set restriction on people littering and increasing the change of a forest fire to start.
